2018 Region III Golf Season Underway

Niagara CCC Men's Golf Championship Team Photo The Region III Golf Season got off to a wet and windy start this weekend with a trio of tournaments.  The season opened on Friday as Cayuga Community College hosted the Nicholas J. DeSocio Memorial Invitational.  Niagara County Community College captured a solid victory with a team score of 318 while Mohawk Valley CC earned a second place finish with a score of 344. MVCC's Matt Tennyson earned medalist honors carding a 78 after matching cards with teammate Bobby Davenport, and Niagara's Cam Eddy and Hogan Lang. 

The Thunderwolves would continue their winning ways on Saturay as they captured the Lazer Invitational hosted by Onondaga Community College. NCCC posted a team score of 322 twelve shots better the the runners-up from SUNY Adirondack.  Tompkins Cortland Community College's Daniel Lapp earned medalist honors with a 75 one shot better than SUNY Adirondack's Ben Hersey, Bobby Davenport (MVCC), and Niagara's Vinny Falvo.

 

Onondaga CC Men's Golf Team Championship Onondaga CC earned the final title of the the weekend as they captured the Tompkins Cortland CC Panther Open on Sunday.  The Lazers posted a score of 309, five strokes better than SUNY Adirondack's 314 and eight strokes better than Niagara CCC's 317.  OCC's Brett Deerhouse earned medalist honors with a one over par 71 after matching cards with Daniel Lapp (TCCC) and Colin Sloan (OCC).  Mohawk Valley's Bobby Davenport finished the weekend with a third top five finish finishing tied for fourth with a round of 72.  Niagara's Ben Kolbe and Jefferson CC's Gabe Lafex finished the weekend with a trio of top ten finishes.  Kolbe tied for 5th at Cayuga, seventh at Onondaga, and tied for 7th at Tompkins Cortland.  Lafex posted round of 82, 78, and 77 finishing tied for seventh, tied for fifth, and tied for ninth.

In the women's competition Jamestown Community College's Marina Kessler earned first place finishes at each event carding a 106 on Friday, 98 on Saturday, and 93 on Sunday.
