Male Athletes of the Week


Kyle Killen

Sport:  Lacrosse

College:  Onondaga Community College

Hometown:  Peterborough, Canada

Kyle helped lead the Onondaga men’s lacrosse team to its 12th straight NJCAA Region III title by compiling 14 points in the Lazers two tournament games. In their semifinal match up with Finger Lakes CC, Killen tallied seven points on five goals and two assists in Onondaga’s 32-6 win. In the Region III Championship game, he netted seven goals to help lead the Lazers to a 23-15 title win. Killen was named tournament MVP after his performances.


Ryan MacCarrick

Sport:  Baseball

College:  Erie Community College

Hometown:  Orchard Park, NY

Ryan batted .500 last week in staking ECC to a 2-2 record. He was 6-for-12 at the plate placing Ryan in a tie for 2nd in Region batting average. Ryan also knocked in 4 runs and scored twice, moving him to 7th in the region in RBI. He also added another pair of stolen bases as the region's 6th best total, while also registering his first homerun this season at Tompkins-Cortland CC.


Drew Morabito

Sport:  Golf

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Batavia, NY

Drew captured the WNYAC individual title last week, topping the field at the Lockport Town & Country Club and finished in the top 10 at the GCC annual invite at Batavia Country Club. Morabito shot a 75 at the WNYAC tournament on Apr. 29, claiming individual medalist honors for the first time for the Cougars this season. He added a top 10 finish on Apr. 30 at the GCC invite, shooting an 81 and placing ninth.


Christopher Simmons

Sport:  Track & Field

College:  Herkimer College

Hometown:  Utica, NY

Simmons placed first in six events at the Region 3 Championship this Saturday at SUNY Delhi, helping the men’s track & field program to a second place finish overall. He ran a 11.42 in the 100-meter dash, 23.07 in the 200-meter dash, 50.69 in the 400-meter dash, 43.96 in the 4x100-meter relay, 3:31.48 in the 4x400-meter relay and leaped 13.54 meters in the triple jump. The sophomore’s impressive day helped him earn Region 3 Male Track Athlete of the Meet.


Female Athletes of the Week

Helen Busch

Sport:  Golf

College:  Genesee Community College

Hometown:  Amherst, NY

Busch earned two individual medalist honors last week for the GCC golf team. Busch shot a 93 and won the women's WNYAC title at the Lockport Town & Country Club and earned the women's individual title at the GCC invite, carding a 93 at the Batavia Country Club.



Sarah Hanlon

Sport:  Softball

College:  Erie Community College

Hometown:  Dunkirk, NY

During the Kats’ 8 games last week, Sarah batted .580 going 14-of-24 at the plate including 4-for-4 in Erie’s 23-8 win over Tompkins-Cortland CC. Sarah also scored 10 runs and registered 9 RBI to go along with a stolen base. Although last week’s win was only Erie’s third this season, the newly revived program is showing progress by out-scoring its opposition 54-53 during its last six games.


Shannon Shirley

Sport:  Track & Field

College:  Herkimer College

Hometown:  Bronx, NY

Shirley won three individual Region 3 championships and helped the women’s track & field program to their sixth team championship at SUNY Delhi on Saturday. The freshman placed first in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay - posting a 13.67, 27.74 and 55.77. Shannon accumulated three more second place finishes in the 400-meter hurdles (1:22.85), 4x400-meter relay (5:03.06) and 4x800-meter relay (14:16.18). Her overall effort got Shirley Region 3 Female Track Athlete of the Meet.


Danielle Vuillemot

Sport:  Softball

College:  Cayuga Community College

Hometown:  Auburn, NY

Vuillemot went 15-21 batting an average of .714 in 6 games with 13 RBIs. In games against Niagara County Community College she went 10-10 with 2 homeruns and 3 doubles driving in 11 runs. She added the game winning hit in the bottom of the 7th with two outs to help her team win over NCCC 13-12.
